Located in the northeastern part of Tokyo and bounded by the Edogawa, Nakagawa, and Arakawa Rivers, Katsushika Ward boasts of a prominent green riverine environment in the heart of Tokyo. Amidst the rich natural settings, warmhearted local residents cherish close and friendly exchanges in their daily lives. The essence of the shitamachi atmosphere (a term referring to the backstreet residential districts of Tokyo) remains noticeable in the ward.

Shibamata, a shooting location for a series of famous Japanese films,is home to a wide variety of popular historical spots such as Daikyo-ji Temple founded in 1629 (commonly known by the name "Shibamata Taishakuten"); a memorial hall that reproduces the film scenes shot in Shibamata; Yamamoto Tei, a refined Japanese shoin style of residential building that also incorporates Western-style architecture; and Yagiri-no-Watashi, the only traditional watashibune (ferryboat) service currently available in Tokyo. The ward has been working hard to preserve these assets to convey a traditional, typical image of Japan for future generations.

Other popular destinations in the ward include Horikiri Iris Garden, which is listed among "the best 100 beautiful scenes during the Edo Period" and was painted by Hiroshige Utagawa and other great ukiyoe artists, and Mizumoto Park, a leading metropolitan park in Tokyo noted for its beautiful riverine landscape. In the garden/park, famous Japanese irises, designated as the ward's flower, can be enjoyed early in summer(June).

Katsushika Ward is also linked to a Japanese association football manga that is popular throughout the world. Bronze statues of the manga's characters, located within the ward, attract many visitors, contributing to the vitalisation of the ward.
