Spotlight on Uozu City Uozu is a city located in the eastern area of Toyama Prefecture in the centre of Japan, along the coast of the Sea of Japan. Uozu faces Toyama Bay in the northwest, and has its highest mountains, with an altitude of 2,415 metres in the southeast. The mountainous area is only 25 kilometres from the coast. The tilting landform creates a unique phenomenon that allows the water to cycle. Such water cycling, via the special landform filled with natural biodiversity, is quite rare around the world, and can somehow be entirely viewed in Uozu City. Therefore, this distinctive feature is also called 'Uozu's water cycle'. Uozu City is rich in high-quality groundwater resources. The water supply in the city comes 100% from the groundwater.
Tourism in Uozu The Mirage, Buried Forest, and Firefly Squids are Uozu's three nationally well-known spectacles.
The Tatemon Festival of Uozu The worshipers at Suwa Shrine celebrate this festival for a safe voyage and a bountiful catch of fish. In December 2016, the Tatemon Festival of Uozu was listed as part of UNESCO's Intangible Culture Heritage.
Taste of Uozu In Uozu, the fishing markets are close to the fishing ports. Visitors can enjoy various types of fresh seafood. Uozu is also famous for its agricultural products, nourished by the groundwater. Representative products are fruits such as apples, pears, and grapes, to name just a few. You can surely enjoy the fun of eating here.
