Maizuru is a city in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, located on the Sea of Japan. Maizuru developed rapidly after the naval port was built in 1901. For over 13 years after the Second World War, Maizuru was a key port for returning Japanese servicemen and detainees from continental Asia, and the records of repatriation are stored in the Maizuru Repatriation Memorial Museum.
