Kikuchi city, located in northeastern Kumamoto Prefecture, has a population of 50,572 people (as of March 31 2014) and occupies an area of 276.85 square kilometres. From Yahogatake in the north to Kuradake of Aso Somma in the east, the area is surrounded by forests and mountains. The vast fertile land lies centring the Kikuchi-heiya Plain formed by the Kikuchi River.
