Fukushima City is situated in a basin between the gentle hills of the Abukuma Highlands to the east and the magnificent Azuma Mountain Range to the west. The Shinobuyama Hills lie in its centre, blessed with lush vegetation. The Abukuma River flows through the city from south to north. Fukushima is a city blessed with ample nature.

Fukushima City is also nationally known for its production of fruits throughout all seasons, such as cherries in early summer, peaches in midsummer, pears and grapes in autumn, and honey-cored apples in early winter.

As for traffic, Fukushima City plays an important role in linking the Tohoku region to the capital. It is a stop for the Tohoku and Yamagata Shinkansens, and many national roads, including the Tohoku Expressway, running both north to south and east to west through the city.
