Misawa City is located in the southeastern part of Aomori Prefecture, facing the picturesque Pacific Ocean to the east and Lake Ogawara to the west. The area stretches 11 km from east to west and 25 km from north to south, with a total land area of 119.87 km2. Its flatland area is blessed with rich nature such as Hotokenuma, a site designated by the Ramsar Convention as one of the important wetlands of the world.
Transportation to Misawa is very convenient, as Misawa Airport has flights to/from Tokyo (Haneda), Osaka (Itami) and Sapporo (Okadama). The Shinkansen (Bullet Train) from Tokyo to Hachinohe, a neighbouring city of Misawa, also makes it easy to travel to Misawa or from Misawa to other places in the Tohoku region and the Tokyo Metropolitan area.
Misawa is active in sports, which are enjoyed by many citizens from children to the elderly. It has hosted many sports events and games in the past, such as the 2003 Aomori Winter Asian Games and the National Athletic Meet. Many university sports teams visit the city for camp training to use Misawa Ice Arena every year. With a high level of international understanding and cultural exchange activities, the citizens of Misawa are proud of their hospitality in welcoming athletes from around the world.
Last but not least, Misawa International Sports Center, a newly developed main arena that meets the standards for many international sporting events, is expected to play an important role in fostering a new sports culture among the citizens of Misawa. In addition, Misawa International Center, which is located in the same area as Misawa International Sports Center, is a place where Japanese and foreign people can get together and enjoy cultural exchange. For all these reasons-its mild climate, convenient transportation and fully furnished facilities-Misawa has the potential to be an excellent pre-camp location and contribute to the athletes participating in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
