In advance of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, Matsudo City is working towards the hosting of pre-Games training camps for foreign Olympic teams. Matsudo is located near to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games venues, and has excellent access to both Narita and Haneda Airports. We would like to welcome the Olympic and Paralympic athletes of your country to train in Matsudo ahead of the 2020 Games.

A variety of sports are actively practised in Matsudo City. The presence of your country's elite athlete would enthral the people of Matsudo, and allow them to further experience the splendour of sports.

There are many tourist attractions within the city that take advantage of traditional Japanese scenery, such as Yagiri-no-Watashi and Tojo Park. Yagiri-no-Watashi is a small ferry boat crossing that was established in the early Edo Period (1603-1868), connecting Shimo-Yakiri in Matsudo and Shibamata in Tokyo. The story depicted in the famous novel Nogiku no Haka ("The Grave of a Wild Chrysanthemum") is set in this Yakiri area, where the quiet rural scenery remains to this day. The Tojo-tei House within Tojo Park was built in 1884 by Akitake Tokugawa (1853-1910), the last lord of the feudal domain of Mito. The house and its beautiful garden are now maintained as a historical park, and many locals and tourists visit throughout the year to enjoy the flowers of each season.

Matsudo City hopes that the hosting of your pre-Games training camps will spark further interaction between local citizens and your nation. By inviting 2020 Tokyo Games athletes, supporters, and other tourists to Matsudo, we wish to further the internationalisation of our city and promote exchanges that continue into the future. We look forward to hosting you.
