Located on the Sea of Japan side of the Tohoku region

Yamagata Prefecture is located on the Sea of Japan side of the Tohoku region. Roughly 300km north of Tokyo, it is a 2 and a half hours journey by bullet train, or a 1-hour plane ride from the capital. It is well known for its cherries, hot spring resorts, and the vividness of its four seasons.

Yamagata is surrounded by Zao, Gassan, Chokai, and Azuma-dazzling peaks counted among the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains. The “Mother River,” the Mogami, flows throughout, blessing the region with myriad natural wonders. In this place, “The Other Japan” unfolds: where small towns, sprawling urbanity, bucolic farmland, and unspoiled woodland form a lovely pattern, and where mankind and nature live in harmony. Here, the Dewa Sanzan and other mystic mountains, sites of holy pilgrimage and asceticism for centuries, keep an age-old spiritual culture alive and well.

An excellent variety of sports facilities and lodgings

In Yamagata, citizens from throughout the prefecture come together to cheer on all kinds of professional sports teams; soccer and basketball are always fan-favorites! These citizens are now earnestly preparing to host top athletes from all over the world in anticipation of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

There is an excellent variety of sports facilities and lodgings, as well as natural hot-spring spas in the prefecture. For pre-competition training camps, Yamagata provides a superlative environment.

Every year, we hold a great many training camps in summer and autumn, not just for professionals and adult teams, but also for collegiate and high school athletes.

A great many training camps

We hosted pre-competition training camps for countries participating in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2015 World Championships in Athletics in Beijing, and are pleased to have received overwhelmingly positive feedback! We exceeded the expectations of athletes and managers alike with our warm country hospitality and attentive staff – not to mention delicious meals prepared with Yamagata-raised beef, fruit, and other homegrown ingredients!
